Students are Measured, Ranked, and Sorted Based on Myths.

Updated: Jul 23, 2020

[Excerpted from the October 2018 edition of Pioneering from Education Reimagined]

Todd Rose went from high school dropout with a 0.9 GPA to earning his Ph.D. from Harvard’s Graduate School of Education where he is now the director of the Mind, Brain, and Education program. He leads the Laboratory for the Science of the Individual where the Individual Mastery Project is conducted.

As Todd reveals in The End of Average, the standards by which young people are measured, ranked, and sorted are fictional creations. They are not based on a child’s gifts, aspirations, culture, or community. In fact, they are what a handful of people decided was important over a century ago

Land Acknowlegement:

The land on which we work in present day Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada, is the traditional unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq Peoples, the "Dawnland Conferacy." This territory is covered by the “Treaties of Peace and Friendship” which Mi'kmaq, Wolastoqewiyik (Maliseet) and Passamaquoddy Peoples first signed with the British Crown in 1726 recognizing Mi’kmaq and Wolastoqewiyik (Maliseet) title and established the rules for an ongoing relationship between the nations.
